The Stalls

Well, I know I said I'd update more, but things have gotten in the way and time has flown by! I cannot believe winter is upon us again. Winter is I think, one my most favourite time of year. The views, the aromas, the atmosphere and of course Halloween and Christmas! I am also moving to a new flat. in the next few weeks. Slightly small but hopefully cosy and safe. This year hasn't been great so a fresh start is needed and creativity can continue!

In the mean time, I have a brand new and very lovely stockist in Leeds City Centre! I have known Natasha Harris for a few years now. She was the organiser of two of my first craft fairs at Granary Wharf and really helped me gain confidence. Having moved from Harrogate, Natasha re-opened The Stalls, this time in Leeds City Centre, next door to the Grand Theatre! I took a selection of my crafts down there on Saturday and fell in love with th place immediately! There are so many exciting and inspirational ranges in there, great for Christmas shopping! The place is cosy and has everything I love about crafts! Below is a photo of my items and once I get some better ones I'll post a few more of the shop in general!

If anyone is interested in stocking my work, please get in touch via email! A few new items will be available very soon so watch this space. Follow me on Facebook too!

Just waiting for tomorrow

Well, I haven't been here in a while, but the good news is that I have recently purchased a shiny new laptop! My PC was old and slow, so I fancied something smaller and more practical.

I hope to update much more. At the moment I am unable to commit to any craft fairs, but will be updating my shops again to make up for this. Please keep checking and spread the word. I am available for commissions!

In the mean time, here are a few images from my summer!

Addicted to....

So, it's been a while since I last blogged. I have had lots of other things to focus on and distractions.

It is fair to say I become addicted to things pretty easily. Here's a list of a few things I am loving at the moment:

  • Instagram - trying to post a photo a day!
  • Pinterest - only just joined and I love it! Love creating boards of the things I love - ideas, inspirations! Follow me HERE!
  • Colour - at the moment I am loving green.
  • Pattern.
  • My cats.
  • Gemma Correll - whimsical, original and fresh illustrations.
  • Tea dresses.
  • Tattoos - recently got my first two.
  • Car boot sales and charity shops - always something amazing to find!
  • Roald Dahl's BFG <3
  • Zooey Deschanel and Michelle Williams - super pretty and inspiring ladies.
  • Printing - been so busy printing t shirts, I could do it with my eyes closed!

Over on etsy and folksy, I have a number of new items listed, with a British theme! Please take a look. Here's a taster below:

Sad face pug badge
Wrinkled Bruno the Dog badge

Next week!

Wow, we've been spoiled rotten with all the sunshine! I have to say it's a little much for me. Although I do love the sun, summer and all that comes with it, it doesn't seem to like me! A nice breeze would help on these beautiful days and maybe some air conditioning at work!
So, next week celebrates the Queen's Jubilee, and of course I had to get in on some celebrations! I am taking part in 'The Stalls' Arts and Crafts Market in Leeds city centre on Sunday 3rd and Monday 4th June. 'The Stalls' is run by Natasha who was the organiser of one of my first craft fairs in 2010 and what a pleasure it is to be back taking part in one of her events again. I am sure she has arranged a wealth of talent. The venue is 'The Light' shopping centre, which in it's self is an innovative place to be with a cinema, gym, restaurants and retails shops all in one big space. Take a look at the flyer below for details.

It would be lovely to see some familiar faces and new ones too! I have lots on offer and a few sales items too! Comes celebrate and see the best of British Art and Craft!

Also, don't forget to take a look at my favourite fair this Saturday - Reet Sweet Summer fair at the Corn Exchange, Leeds!

Sunshine - at last! Seems to be the hot topic at the moment too. Today is my birthday and I have to say so far I've had a lovely day. Went to the park, fed the ducks, had ice cream and enjoyed the sunshine. I got some lovely, thoughful presents and had some flowers delivered to work from my boss which was a nice suprise.

I recently downloaded Instagram for my phone, love the effects but not 100% used to using it yet. Here are a few of my better images!

We had a little bit of sunshine today after weeks of rain and wind, which was great for the fair i was a part of today!

Today's fair at Wharf Chambers - awesome venue and great people!

I have just updated my Etsy and Folksy shops with a few new bits, including a rare rainbow horse plush! Take a look and see what you think!

May Day, May Day!

My first job here is to apologise for not blogging in such a long time! I have been pre-occupied with a few problems and with a busy few months at work. For those of you who don't know, my day job is actually managing a t shirt printing shop in Leeds full time. I have managed the shop for nearly 5 years and still love the fact that no day is ever the same. I get to create t shirts for such a variety of customers and with a large variety of designs!
So, here I am with a very quick but informative update! I am looking foward to Saturday the 12th May very much because I get to sell my crafts at the wonderful Handmade Fair, run by the super lovely Amy Panda who is soon to become a mummy! I have a few new designs hopefully on the way this week, especially for this event!

Handmade is one of my favourite fairs to take part of. the atmosphere is always very relaxed and happy and Amy choses the perfect selection of makers. Next saturday's fair is at Wharf Chambers at the bottom end of Leeds, which I am told is a great venue and hang-out. Come take a look and see what's on offer!

I also have something up my sleeve for June too - perhaps a few fairs yet to be confirmed. In the meantime, please keep checking my blog, shops and add me on facebook 'Jil Made This'!

Thursday, 5 April 2012

What a lovely March we had with the unexpected and uncharacteristic warm weather! Now we're in April and we had snow here in Leeds yesterday! Last weeks I was wearing summer clothes, this week saw my scarfe and gloves make a come back. British weather at it's best??!
Anyway, I am sad to say that due to work commitments, I can't make this Saturday's Reet Sweet easter shopping fair, well not as a seller. I will call down and have a gander on my lunch break however and see what gooodies are on sale. Please do take a look if you are around and free. The blog and website explain it all! The best thing about Reet Sweet and my friends who run it is that they create a wonderful selection of stallholders, carefully chosen to ensure there is enough variety and handmade goodness for everyone. Below are a few photos of what to expect this week. So, take a stroll away from the high street and into the delightful Corn Exchange which does itself bost architectural beauty and character.
Badges by Sarah Fordham aka 'Magasin'
Amazing stuff by fellow Leeds crafters 'Foxbunting'
Julibee jewellrey by Rowan at Kitschen Sink
Don't forget to keep checking up on me and add me as jilmadethis on facebook too. I will be back in May with the wonderful Amy Panda of Handmade who is putting on an event on the 12th. Take a look at the Handmade Leeds blog for updates!

badges and badges

Some women collect handbags, others shoes. I have never been a shoes or handbag person. I collect various things from toys to dresses to scarves. Those who know my crafts will know that the majority of items I hand craft consist of badges. I am a badge person. I have aquired a collection of badges, not just made by me, but by the wonderful range of crafters I have met at the many fairs I have sold at and visited. A badge is a very simple way of changing your outfit, making a statement or in my case, showing off something beautiful. So I thought I'd share some of my favourites with you!
Panda, robin and owl by my lovely friend and fellow craft lover Amy Panda.
Cotton reel and custard cream by Jodie Anna who's items are just devine! check out her new british jewellrey range!
Eiffel tower, diamond and teapot by Kayleigh O'Mara, who creates wonderfully illustrated badges and cards!
What kind of things do you collect?

Spring Craft Fair - Sheffield!

Tomorrow, I will be selling my hand crafted goodies at Sheffield Student Union, a lovely venue in the heart of Sheffield. There will be crafts, workshops, food, beauty stalls and more all in one vibrant space! This is the fair that awarded me with 'best dressed stall' just before Christmas and is one of my favourites - awesome folk and great atmoshpere. Come up and see me - what better way to spend your Saturday!

Spring is slowly arriving, beautiful skies, fresh colours and that wonderful spring smell in the air! I love colour and anyone who's seen my crafts and stall will know this! It is very important to me that my fabrics are the right colours and patterns to compliment my illustrations. So below are a few photos I've taken to celebrate my love of colour (and pencils)!

This Saturday 10th I will be selling at Sheffield Millenium Galleries with the ever so marvellous Reet Sweet! Come along and see what fantastic goodies are on sale! Take a look at the blog for more information and previews!
