My shop!

I can now proudly announce that I have a permanent shop, shared with The Deco Press inside Handpicked Hall, Leeds on the first floor. We've been open for three weeks now and it's been a great pleasure so far. We open Thursday, Friday and Saturdays every week and sell alongside a bunch of other very talented retailers.

Good news!

So the past few weeks have been very exciting for Jil Made This!

I was a featured maker for the wonderful Folksy..eeep! Very exciting! There's a link to my interview here:

The lovely Folksy team also used my horse photo as their Facebook cover photo and tweeted about me many times! Thank you to Camilla and the team!

More big news:

Jil Made This is teaming up with The Deco Press and opening a shop inside Handpicked Hall, located in The Grand Arcade as previously mentioned. Alice and I will be selling our products on the first floor of this independent department store, which happens to be the location of my day job too! Here's a photograph of my work in the Handpicked Hall window display, which myself and Alice designed and made.

I have been working in our Skipton, Leeds and Ripon stores implementing a new visual merchandising system which has had positive feedback!

Once our shop is set up, I will be sure to post some photographs and more details! Until then, you can follow me on Facebook: /jilmadethis or twitter: @jilmadehtis!

Busy times

The Past two months have been very busy indeed! What is it you've been up to, I hear you ask? Let's find out:

As previously mentioned, this ever-growing department store, full of wonderful local retailers has bucket loads on offer. Food and drink, fashion, vintage, art, craft, health and well-being and much more all under one beautiful roof. I am now a part of the Handpicked Hall team, hired as a visual merchandiser. So, not only will I be selling my products there, I will also be working there and involved in various projects in Leeds, Skipton and Ripon, which is a dream opportunity.
The building which I used to go to on nights out years ago when it was a run down night club, has been completely transformed and now offers space for over 100 retailers, of all sizes and backgrounds. It has this amazing atmosphere amongst the traders and their customers, that I've not seen in any other department store. I guess, it isn't just a retail outlet, it is a community and without intending to sound too cheesy, it's a big happy family! A family of like-minded folk who all have the same goal - to get their products on to the high street with the help of the Handpicked Hall brand.

If you live in Yorkshire, it's definitely worth a visit. Come Christmas, this place will be brimming with unique retailers and exciting events. Take a look at our website to view what's going on and the retailers and events already in place - Handpicked Hall!

Inside Handpicked Hall you can find a gift shop - Our Handmade Collective. It's in the name really - a unique collection of small businesses run by business partners Claire and Nat. From tasty chocolate and cake pops, to Yorkshire embroidered cushions and stunning jewellery, it is the perfect place to find a unique hand-crafted gift...and Jil Made This! I now have a small collection of badges, cards, plush items and magnets available in Our handmade collective - all very exciting!
Each retailer has their own space and profile in this well presented and well advertised space. It really is a lovely little treasure trove, with friendly and very dedicated staff. They even have a bunch of free children's workshop over the summer to keep your little ones entertained and crafty!
All in all a lovely place to sell my work and work around!

Craft fairs:

In the past few months, as well as selling at Handpicked Hall, I have taken part in the Leeds Waterfront festival, run by Artsmix and Paperdoll Vintage and Craft Fair in Elsecar.

The Waterfont festival, held each year is definitely worth a visit, with plenty to do - craft and vintage stalls, live music, water activities and a feast of food and drink venues. We had a great day That is, apart from the pesky wind, which us traders weren't fond of.

Elsecar Heritage centre, located in the attractive village of Elsecar hosts numerous events including one of Yorkshire's biggest monthly antiques and collectables fairs. This is where Paperdoll events held a 60 stall craft and vintage fair last Sunday. I was given loads of compliments, had many people giving me positive feedback and asking about my products - it was lovely to see a great footfall and group of genuinely interested and supportive customers! I look forward to doing more events there!

You'll have see my illustrated portraits of dogs, cats, rabbits and deers available as prints, I'm sure. Well, I've had such a demand for people wanting their own pets drawn in clothes that my 'Animals with clothes' range will now also work on a commission basis. If you'd like an original Jil Made This portrait or any kind of commission, please contact me directly via my email address -!

I will post another entry next week as there's much more to talk about! In the mean time, you can find me on facebook, twitter, pinterest and instagram - typre in Jilmadethis and you're sure to find me!

I am writing from inside the very beautiful and bright Handpicked Hall this afternoon. The atmosphere is relaxed and the people (customers and sellers) are fantastic. Handpicked Hall, already established in Ripon and Skipton, offers a big bunch of independent sellers ready to give retail a good go! From Vegan cakes and home-made chocolate to Handmade Collective group of amazing crafters, this place has it all and is still growing. Having taken part in the preview evening and also trading yesterday and today, it has been great to be part of a friendly family of exciting and creative folk! Today there is a large Victorian entertainment group and barber shop quartet as well and a few classes going on - where else would you find this kind of thing in Leeds?!

Those who live in Leeds may remember Handpicked Hall, situated in the Grand Arcade used to be a nightclub and was dark and dingy. It has been magically transformed with a lot of hard worked into a big, bright and open space with lots of hidden nooks and crannies and revitalised original features over two floors! With a big stunning glass roof and beautiful tiles floors, this place has a calm and friendly feel, with a positive aura amongst it's staff and traders. So, if you're looking for something new, original and a full of character, this is the place to be and just a few minutes walk from the Headrow, it is definitely worth coming over! It's already become one of my favourite places to be and had a mass of positive feedback.

Jil Made This will hopefully have a regular place here meaning you can see what I've been up to, make suggestions and of course pick up some handmade treats! Here are a few snaps of my space on the first floor! My new prints are receiving lots of positive feedback and I am taking commissions too!

So, come along to Handpicked Hall, open Wed - Sun with a wide variety of sells and lots of fun!

I will be there all day Friday and Saturday, with lots of new and favourited items on sale! Hope to see some friendly faces there - spread the word!

First of the Month

A busy month and some exciting things coming up for Jil Made This!

I have just updated my Etsy and Folksy shops with some rare one off items. Take a look, you can buy this one off pin cushion and more!

You can also follow me on Facebook here and see what I've been up to! I have a new work area, which sometimes includes my cat Wilson.

Last month, I went to my oldest friends wedding which was an amazing day at a beautiful venue which will be remembered fondly. She asked for me to create a memory and contribute to her day by painting her wedding shoes. It was a tough job, but the results were pleasing and most importantly she loved them!

As you can imagine this was great news - any sale is welcome, but this one was a nice surprise!
